Buzz Universe made their annual appearance at the Rocks Off Concert Cruise last Friday night bringing their funky grooves to revelers on the east river.

New Jersey based Buzz Universe has been gathering quite a following over the past year, appearing at a slew of festivals. This increasing popularity is due in part to their fantastic live performances. Buzz Universe is made up of Alex Garay on guitar and vocals, Dave Migliore on drums, Greg McLoughlin on bass and vocals, Brian Ciufo on saxophone and on Friday night guest starred Meredith Bogacz on violin.
Buzz Universe offers intricately crafted songs and a wild live experience. The band’s sound is a blend of rock, Latin and world music enveloped in melodies and rhythms that are infectious. They are a jam band, but funkier and with a rock streak, featuring rock percussion, rock guitars and searing violin.

The party set afloat, slightly later than billed, on the Half Moon boat which cruised from east midtown to the Statue of Liberty with the Manhattan skyline as backdrop. The cool breeze of the boat and the refreshing sounds of Buzz Universe made for a perfect Friday night. The highlight of the show undoubtedly had to be the exuberant finale of BuzzU’s ‘Dear Santa’ in the 90 degree New York heat.
