5 Unexpected Foods To Up Your Protein Intake

When you’re working out, and working out hard, you need to make sure you supply your body with the nutrients it needs to rebuild itself. That means protein – and lots of it. The rule of thumb is, if you’re lifting hard and heavy, you need to take in at least 1.5 grams of protein for every pound that you weigh. Ideally, you want to take in at least 2 grams.
That means that if you weigh 175 lbs, you should be eating a whopping 350 grams of protein every day. Most of us will never come close to meeting our daily protein intake, but we still need to try. Here are five uncommon food items that you can use to supplement your daily protein intake (remember, you should still be getting the majority of your protein from animal, soy, and whey products).
